Q&A: With The Punches!

I've got the chance to chat with the upcoming Pop-Punk band, With The Punches, from New York!

They are currently on tour with Hit The Lights, A Loss For Words, and State Champs.

Check out what they have to say below!

(Hosted by Patrick Rangel, So Fresh Int; Answered by Dustin Wallace, With The Punches):

Q: How did you first get into music (as a band)?

A:     We've all played in bands for years, so we started With The Punches with a pretty solid idea of what we wanted to do. Jesse and I (Dustin) have been best friends for like 10 years, we found Shane through MySpace, Vinny through Craigslist, and Mike is a close friend of Shane's.

Q: Has your style evolved over the years?  If so, how?

A:     I think the first two EP's, we were going in with an idea of what we wanted to write. When we started writing Seams & Stitches, we just sat in a room together trying different ideas until it became some we all really liked.

Q: Name some of your biggest influences? Musically or otherwise?

A:     The Movielife, New Found Glory, H2O, Lifetime, The Bouncing Souls, Descendents, and Gorilla Biscuits.

Q: What's your favorite part of being involved in music?

A:     Anytime someone comes up to us and tells us that something we wrote helped them get through a rough time, that's why we all got into punk rock, so it's cool that we get to have that effect on people.

Q: What are some accomplishments, recognition, events, etc. that you're proud of?

A:     Touring Japan twice, touring The UK, our record ending up on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart (I never expected anything like that, so when it happened, it was pretty cool) and all the rad friends we've made through the band.

Q: What can fans expect in the horizon for With The Punches?

A:     More songs, more records, more tours, more fun!

***If you haven't heard their older records, check it out here.  Perhaps even purchase them!***

(Q&A cont'd):

Q: This past Fall 2012, you guys toured with I Call Fives and a couple notable others.  How was it like being on the road?  Name some ups and downs.

A:     We've been touring for about three and a half years, several of those tours have been with I Call Fives, we love those dudes, but we also got to meet Real Friends and Stickup Kid, who are both awesome. Touring is great but you always go broke, get sick, and miss your loved ones, that sucks, but all that sorta falls away when you hit the stage (except being sick, that will make you blackout on stage, and that sucks).

Q: Currently this December, you guys are touring with Hit The Lights, A Loss For Words, and State Champs- all such notable acts.  How is that coming along so far?

A:     This tour has been amazing, we've all known each other for years, so it was cool going on a tour where everyone was already friends. Our first show ever was with Hit The Lights and our second show was with A Loss For Words, kinda rad that now we're on tour with both of them.

Q: Tell us about the people you've encountered while touring this past year.  Were there any significant groups/individuals or supporting acts you've played with?

A:     We already mentioned Real Friends and Stickup Kid who rule, but Forever Came Calling, State Champs (NY what up!), Neck Deep, Far From Proper, Meridian, Bellwether, Doses, I Was A Hero, Shorthand, Killscreen, Theives, and Knucklepuck.

Q: Lastly, is there anything else you'd like to add?

A:     Please take some time and check out all the bands mentioned above. Thanks for taking the time out to read all this and maybe check out our latest record Seams & Stitches.
